Lolium spp.
Ryegrass is often used as a desirable turfgrass in cool climates but can become a weed when it invades warm-season sports fields. It grows quickly in cooler conditions, creating competition for preferred grass species. Ryegrass is controlled by adjusting mowing height, reducing irrigation, and applying selective herbicides when necessary.
