Aceria cynodoniensis
Couch mites are microscopic pests that cause tufted, stunted growth in couch grass (Cynodon spp.). Affected plants develop a “witches’ broom” appearance, with short, thickened leaves. Damage is most visible in warm seasons and worsens under drought stress. Mites spread through wind, mowing, and contact. Cultural management, including avoiding excessive nitrogen and maintaining turf health, helps reduce infestations.
